Orashi National Congress Expresses Worry About Predicted Flooding By Nimet

Posted on May 4, 2025
Following a report by Nimet, that about 30 States across the country are most likely to be affected by heavy flooding, Apex Niger Delta socio-cultural group, Orashi National Congress, ONC, has expressed its worry about the effect of the impending flooding on their people.
Rising from a meeting on Saturday 3rd May, 2025, the ONC said that the prediction calls for immediate proactive measures since Rivers State was among the states that would be affected by the flooding and their area shares direct boundaries with Bayelsa State.
Speaking to the media on behalf of the ONC, Amb. Comrade Emeni Ibe, the President General of the group said, “At our emergency meeting today, the ONC expressed genuine concerns about the impending flooding to be witnessed in Rivers State and other states across the country”.
“We are particularly worried because our area is very close to the coastline and will most likely be affected by heavy flooding. We are using this opportunity to call on community and youth leaders to sensitize our people on the need to make efforts on how to contain the impact of the flooding on human and material resources.”
“The ONC therefore, charges the community and youth leaders to mobilize our people to clear the waterways, gutters and all drainage channels to forestall any form of negative impacts. They should engage town criers in all the villages and towns and enlighten the people properly about the impending flooding as predicted by Nimet.
“We are equally calling on the Government and Non-Governmental Organizations to make efforts at assisting the communities now and not when the rains come heavilyy.”
