Organisers Plan Big For 6th Lagos Women Run

The General Coordinator of the Lagos Women Run, Ms Tayo Popoola, has said that the 6th edition of the Lagos Women Run which holds on November 13, will be much better than previous editions because of the innovations that will be introduced in the race.

According to Popoola, the public will be intimated about these innovations at the LWR Expo which holds a few days to the November 13 date of the biggest women run in sub-sahara Africa.

She noted that, the call by the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwolu, tasking women runners in the state to get fit and be healthy as they prepare for the next edition of the run, and the admonition of the Lagos First Lady, Mrs Ibijoke Sanwolu, to women runners to keep running at the Lagos Women Run, are enough indicators, that the 2021 LWR will be full of new innovations that will enliven the 10 Km Run.

Tayo Popoola, stressed that the support from Gov. Sanwolu and his beautiful wife have given the Lagos Women Run the needed boost to ensure that, the 10km Run which centres on the campaign against the emancipation of women, brutality of women’s folks in Nigeria, the campaign against all kinds of slavery against the Girl Child, will be very interesting this time around.

The General Co-ordinator disclosed that all arrangements towards hosting a successful sixth edition of the run, have been put in place for a more befitting Real and Virtual Run, adding that, two categories will be competed for: The Open category for ages 18years old to 44 years old, and Veteran category for ages 45 years and above. She stated that the colour of this year’s running shirt will tell a lot about the women folks. And there will distinguishing variants between the running shirt of participants in the Open and Veteran categories.

The General Co-ordinator noted that for both runners; the Real and Virtual, there will be a widow on the LWR website for them to place an order for their running shirt ahead of the event. This will be delivered on their doorsteps based on arrangements made, She added that, just as it was done at last year’s run, all Covid-19 restrictions will be observed during the 2021 Lagos Women Run, in compliance with international best practices. And the organisers will be very strict about this.

She hinted that all registered runners that cross the finish line in the 10km Run, will receive participation medals at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
