Owo Is One Mourns Prof. Adene

The late Professor Adene
The Owo Is One Association (OIOA), a socio-political, economic, and cultural association of Owo-speaking communities worldwide, announces the passing of one of its distinguished members and community senior citizens, Professor Daniel Folorunsho Adene, aged 81, after a brief illness. Professor Adene, a renowned Nigerian veterinary surgeon, was born on June 21, 1944, in Owo, Ondo State.
The association’s National Secretary, Dr. Monday Duromola, while announcing the news, recalled that Prof. Adene was a community leader, very active and robust in discussions.
He was one of the elderly people who joined the association at its early stage and headed the Ethics, Disciplinary, and Reconciliatory Committee.
Professor Adene’s notable achievements included serving as a Veterinary Officer in the Western State Ministry of Agriculture (1970-71), holding the position of Reader in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ibadan (1972), and specializing in Avian (Poultry) Medicine (1974).
He was a recipient of prestigious awards, including the German Academic Scholar (1966-70), Commonwealth Academic Fellow (UK, 1981), and Fulbright Research Fellow (USA, 1985).
A proud alumnus of Imade College, Owo, Professor Adene earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, Master of Veterinary Science (MVSc), and PhD. He co-authored publications, including a study on the “Ten Year Prevalence Study of Marek’s Disease and Avian Leukoses at Ibadan, Nigeria”.
According to the association’s Head of Media, Olatunbosun Oladimeji, the association’s National Coordinator, Chief Akinboro Aruwajoye also the Ogbeni-Oja of Owo and a junior to the deceased in college, described the late Professor Adene as a brilliant, intelligent, upright, caring, and Godly individual whose leadership was impactful in the academic world.
He will be deeply missed for his candid advice and positive contributions.
The family will soon announce Professor Adene’s funeral plans.
