The Oyo State Advisory Council has strongly condemned the deadly invasion of Ahoro-Esinele Community in Oriire Local Government Area of the state by suspected gunmen, describing the attack as a tragic reminder of the worsening security challenges confronting the country.

The Council, led by its Chairman, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde SAN, OFR, decried the killing of a teacher during the attack as well as the abduction of the school principal, other teachers and students.

In a statement issued on behalf of the Council, Ayorinde expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the family of the slain teacher, whose death he described as a painful loss to the state and the education sector.

“The Oyo State Advisory Council unequivocally condemns the recent invasion by gunmen at the Ahoro-Esinele Community in Oriire Local Government Area, an act that has not only resulted in the tragic death of a dedicated teacher but has also led to the abduction of the principal, teachers and students of the school,” the statement said.

According to the Council, the deceased teacher had contributed immensely to shaping the lives of young people and advancing educational development in the state.

“Their loss is deeply felt not only by the family but also by the entire state, which has benefited from the invaluable contributions and guidance of this educator.

Teachers are the backbone of our society, shaping and nurturing the minds of our future leaders, and this violence against them is wholly unacceptable,” the statement added.

The Council also sympathised with the families of the abducted victims, acknowledging the emotional pain and uncertainty they are currently facing.

It assured residents that the Oyo State Government, working with security agencies, was making concerted efforts to secure the release of those kidnapped during the attack.

“We stand in solidarity with you, and we assure you that the Oyo State Government, in collaboration with our security agencies, is committed to ensuring the safe and swift return of your loved ones,” the statement noted.

The Council disclosed that Governor Seyi Makinde had mobilised all available resources toward resolving the crisis and restoring calm to the affected community.

While urging residents not to panic, the Council called on citizens across the state to remain vigilant and security-conscious by reporting suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.

“It is everyone’s responsibility to look out for signs of unusual activity or movement in our neighbourhoods. Do not hesitate to report any suspicious activity to the relevant security agencies.

Your proactive engagement can potentially save lives and avert future tragedies,” the statement said.

The Council further appealed for unity and collective resolve among residents in confronting insecurity and preserving peace across the state.

“As we navigate through these troubling times, let us draw strength from one another and support each other in every possible way. We must remain united in our resolve to create a peaceful and secure environment for our children and future generations,” it added.

The latest attack has heightened concerns over the safety of schools and rural communities in parts of Oyo State, amid increasing calls for stronger security measures to curb violent attacks and kidnappings.
