Oyo Govt Committed To Improved Social Welfare Interventions For Vulnerable Citizens – Says Balogun

The Oyo State Government has emphasised it’s commitment to improvements in its social welfare interventions with a view to improving the quality of lives lived by the people,particularly within the vulnerable demographics like women,children,the physically challenged and the elderly.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs. Toyin Balogun, stated this in Ibadan while interacting with the management team of Oyo Tech Hub, during a courtesy visit.

She stressed that the ambit of social welfare are wide ranging,and can only be effectively taken care of through a collaborative synergy between government( ministries/agencies), NGOs, corporate entities who participate in CSR initiatives and well meaning, public spirited individuals.

Speaking further, she noted that the Oyo State Government is ready to partner with Non-profit organisations, NGOs, corporate entities and individuals with a strong sense of CSR to ensure that the vulnerable communities are brought from poverty to prosperity in line with the Agenda of the Governor Seyi Makinde led government.

The Commissioner lauded the NGO, stating that it was in tandem with the goals of the present administration to lift at least 4 million women from destitution into a state of self sustenance.

She also gave a commitment to support the NGO as much as possible within the confines of time and available resources to ensure this laudable joint vision is actualized.

In his brief, the Head Innovation and Technology, Oyo Tech Hub, Mr. Ibukun Atoro stated that the organization is a non profit making organization, that has been in existence for about 3 years, while supporting vulnerable young girls and women who are disadvantaged in terms of education and exposure to today’s technology.

Mr. Atoro stressed that the mission of the organization is to train young girls and women based on a UNESCO report that stated that women remain a minority in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education and careers.

He stated that their training center is based in Oyo town and they have been able to train many young girls at no cost to the participants in computer technology, running for 6 – 12 weeks per batch.

Mr. Atoro explained that there is infrastructure on ground for 200 students at a time and the goal of the organization is to ensure that over a million young girls from Oyo town pass through the training before next year December.
