The plans by some elements of confusion to use a top Igbo leader and retired Military officer to scuttle Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State election has collapsed after the electoral committee Chairman, Chief Oliver Akubueze (Miri), insisted that the election must hold to restore peace in Ohanaeze in the State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that to further strengthen the electoral committee, the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State, Chief Solomon Aguene, has appointed Rev Paul Eze as the secretary of the electoral committee while Chief Calistus Odoemenam is now the treasurer of the committee because of his experience as a banker.

The plans to scuttle the election came to fore after Chief Aguene appointed 62 electoral committee to conduct free and fair elections to elect new executives for lasting peace reign in Ohanaeze.

The decision is being pushed by a group said to belong to Prince Ubochi, who is sensing that if the election is conducted, he may not realize his ambition to take over the leadership of Ohanaeze in Lagos State.

The group was said to have contacted the retired Military General, who called Chief Akubueze and asked him not to conduct election and if he does that, he will use the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide to nullify the election.

However, Chief Akubueze reportedly told him clearly that the committee will conduct the election not only in the State but across the various LCDAs to restore the lasting peace in Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State.

Chief Akubueze’s decision to go on with the election jolted the opposition who were said to have been benefiting from the crisis over the years. Now that peace is about to return State Chapter, they are threatening to go to Court to nullify the election and bring the National body to conduct another election in the State.

Chief Aguene has reiterated his commitment to conduct a free and fair election and stated that it was the only way forward for Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Lagos State.

He stated that the electoral committee will conduct the election to elect new executives, who he will handover to, stressing that the National body of Ohanaeze has no right to conduct election in any chapter but it is their right to observe election in any chapter.

“We must correct the mistakes of the past because that is where the crises in state chapters are coming from.”

“Some, who are national executives, who have no jobs but claiming to have jobs are using the crises of state chapters to collect money from the oppositions.”

“The truth must be told if Ohanaeze Ndigbo wants to get it right. There should be no zoning of the office of the President in any state chapter in order to get competent person as President because Ohanaeze Ndigbo is not a political structure, where godfathers endorse candidates of their choice.”

Meanwhile the electoral committee has since commenced their work to conduct free and fair elections.
