Players’ Union Congratulates Oshoala On African Award, Says Honour Hope For Nigerian Football

The National Association of Nigerian Professional Footballers (NANPF), has sent a congratulatory message to Super Falcons and Barcelona star forward, Asisat Oshoala on her award as the 2019 Africa’s Women Player of the Year at the CAF awards held Tuesday,in Cairo, Egypt. As the captain of the Super Falcons, Oshoala won her fourth award as Africa’s female best footballer.
Oshoala saved the night of the gala for Nigerian football as she was the only player from the most populous nation on the black continent that made it to the podium.  Oshoala was named African Women’s Player of the Year for the fourth time, equalling the record of her compatriot Perpetua Nkwocha. Oshoala, who plies her trade with the women team of FC Barcelona in Spain, garnered 351 votes, 30 more than Cameroonian forward Ajara Nchout and Thembi Kgatlana, who had 247 votes. The CAF Awards 2019 gala was held at the Albatros Citadel Sahl Hasheesh Resort in Hurghada, Egypt.
In the message signed on behalf of the union by the General Secretary of NANPF, Comrade Austin Popo, it specifically stated that with the award received by Oshoala as the best female African footballer, there is hope for Nigerian football.
Popo, a former Nigeria international winger, remarked that the honour done to Oshoala, calls for more work. As he added that the player’s union would not relent in its efforts to ensure that Nigerian footballers home and diaspora gets due rewards for their talents efforts and hardwork.
