Police Bust Suspected Cult Leader With Weapons During Coordinated Operation

Operatives from the Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan Lagos, under the leadership of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Adegoke Fayoade, have arrested a suspected cult leader, Orekoya Abayomi, 54, and recovered various weapons during a coordinated operation.
P.M.EXPRESS reports as was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer,
CSP Ayuba Umma, who confirmed the arrest.
The PPRO stated that the operation was based on intelligence at the disposal of the Assistant Inspector General of Police in-charge of Zone 2 Command comprising Lagos and Ogun State Police Commands about the criminal activities, hideout and plans of suspected members of Eiye Fraternity.
The group was said to be terrorizing Ijebu-Ife axis of Ogun State, which led to the deployment of the officer-in-charge of Zonal Dragon Squad II (ZDS-II) led by DSP Akeem Adeyemi and team for a discrete operation.
The operation paid off on 19th March, 2025, as the Police stormed the hideout of the said cult group and raided them while planning an attack where one Orekoya Abayomi, 54 years, was arrested while other members of the group escaped through a nearby bush.
During the investigation, the suspect led the team to his residence, where the following items were recovered including one locally made Single Barrel Pistol, Six Live Cartridges, 21 Voter’s Cards with different names (suspected to be fake and one Emerald Pump Action Gun with Breach No. 1335.
The Police stated that the investigation is ongoing to arrest other suspects who escaped and the matter will be charged before the Court after the conclusion of investigation by the Police.
