Police Inspector Arrested Over Failed N20m Illicit Drug Deal

There was a twist over the arrest of two ‘fake’ Police Inspectors, Alex Akaeze, 39, and Kadiri Hassan, 45, over their alleged involvement in a failed illicit drugs deal in Edo State as one of them, Akaeze revealed that he is still a serving Police officer. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Inspector Akaeze revealed that he was transferred to Zamfara State from AIG Zone 2, Lagos State, before he was arrested in connection with the drug issue among other members of the gang in Edo State.
The operatives from the Edo State Police Command paraded Hassan andd Akaeze as fake Police inspectors arrested in connection with illicit drugs valued at N20 million in the State.
The Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, who disclosed this in Benin City, said they were among the five-man criminal gang specialized in dealing in illicit drugs.
He gave the names of the other members of the gang including Ovie Samuel, 46; Stanley Itota, 45; and Felix Oputi, 46.
CP Adegboye explained that the suspects were arrested by operatives of the Command’s Intelligence and Rapid Response Squad at a guest house operated by one Samuel at No 5, Colobus Street, off Upper Mission Extension Road, Benin City.
He added that the illicit drug called ‘ice’ weighed 1,080 kilograms with a street value of N20 million. He added that the investigation is ongoing and that the suspects would soon be charged before the court.
When interrogated, one of the suspects, Akaeze, said he was enlisted into the Police Force in 2009 and have served in different capacities in the Police before and rose to the rank of Police Inspector before he was transferred to Zamfara State from AIG Zone 2, Lagos State, where he last served before he was arrested over the drug issue.
