Police Inspector Faces Trial Over N60,000 Marked Bribe Money

A police Inspector attached to Area K Command in Badagry, Lagos, Okoi Etim who was arrested with marked N60,000 will face room trial on Tuesday towards his dismissal from the Force.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that this was the outcome of the recommendation of the police team that arrested and investigated Etim at Alagbon, Lagos.
Police sources said that the trial may just be for formality sake as the Police Authority have already moved to Etim’s house and recovered all the police property found there including his uniforms.
The travail of Etim followed the petition by the Hotel Association in Badagry area of Lagos to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG, Force Headquarters in Abuja who ordered for Etim to be investigated.
P.M.EXPRESS had reported that the officer (Etim) reportedly lied to hotel owners by using the name of the Area Commander, ACP Hope Okafor to extort N60,000 each from them to enable them operate in the area peacefully.
However, it turned out that his lies caught up with him as the hotel association trapped him with marked money. While he was smiling counting the money to check if it was complete, he was arrested and handcuffed.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered the petitioners had alleged that Etim and his team have been extorting from the hoteliers for over six years using intimidation and harassment.
P.M.EXPRESS confirmed the development from members of the hotel association who said they were going to appear before the panel set up by the police to testify against Etim.
