Popular Activist Emeka Ogbonna Flees Nigeria To Avoid Arrest
A popular human rights activist, founder of the civil society organization, ‘Agenda for New Nigeria’, and an ardent critic of Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, Comrade Emeka Chibuzo Ogbonna, has joined group of activists fleeing the country into exile.
We reliably gathered that he fled Nigeria following threats to his life and concerns that he was going to be arrested on trumped up charges of treason, terrorism, and cyber stalking.
It is on record that many activists and journalists have been arrested and framed for treason by the Buhari administration.
Emeka Chibuzo Ogbonna is known to have openly criticized the Buhari administration on several occasions, and at various seminars and public speaking events he had spoken at, including criticizing the government through several media interviews.
It will be recalled that while speaking at a public seminar organized by Agenda for New Nigeria, held in Lagos, on 17th March, 2019, Comrade Emeka Ogbonna heavily criticized government clampdown on freedom of speech and association, by their continued attacks on activists, journalists, and dissenting voices, using government security agents.
He was among the activists injured by the Police during the #RevolutionNow protest held on 5th August 2019, and had also participated in various protests held for the release of renowned activist, journalist, and convener of the #RevolutionNow protest, Omoyele Sowore.
Apart from being actively involved in activism, several pro democracy rallies and public seminars, where he is known to have spoken out openly, to condemn bad governance in Nigeria, Emeka Chibuzo Ogbonna also has over 13 years working experience in the private sector, where he rose to senior management level.
