A 23-year old POS operator, Agbaje Abiola, has been sentenced to one year imprisonment in Lagos State for allegedly using his boss’ N900,000 to play Bet9ja game and it failed after assurances that he would win.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the convict, Abiola, was arrested and charged for stealing on 26th June, 2024, two weeks after he was employed as POS Operator by the owner, Yemi Liasu.

The incident happened at Rasaki Tijani Street, Igando Road, Ikotun area of Lagos, where the complainant Liasu opened a POS office and employed Abiola.

Abiola pleaded guilty before the Magistrate Court sitting in Ejigbo for the two-count charge of stealing and conduct likely to cause breach of public peace.

The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, presented the facts of the matter and asked the Court to sentence him accordingly to serve as deterrent to others who might want to do so in the future.

The Presiding Magistrate, K.A. Ariyo, found him guilty as charged and sentenced him accordingly for 12 months on the two count charge.

The Court however, ordered that the sentence will run concurrently and by implication Abiola will only spend the next six months in prison custody.

The Court also ordered that the convict had an option of refunding the money he stole to the owner and embark on community service if he will not spend the months in the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos.

Abiola landed in trouble after he was informed about the numbers that may likely win the bet game with assurances as sure numbers.

He took the money belonging to his boss, Yemi and staked with the hope that he will win and return the money without informing the boss.

He later absconded and was later arrested in a hotel in Oyo State by then he had spent all the money he stole on women and was brought to Lagos for prosecution over his conduct.
