Nigeria’s economic growth potential is being hindered by policy inconsistency and the use of inappropriate language, according to Professor Obiora Okonkwo,OFR, a renowned political economist.

In an exclusive interview with Channels Television, Professor Okonkwo called on leaders at all levels of government to be cautious and deliberate in their verbal and written expressions.

Highlighting that the words of those in authority are capable of causing ripple effects on the economy and citizens’ well-being, Professor Okonkwo emphasized the need for precision and action-oriented language. He urged the government, regardless of their political affiliation, to harness the power of words to transform potential into tangible results.

Professor Okonkwo, while providing insights on revitalizing the country’s economy, maintained that the words of those in authority, without much action, are capable of impacting the economy, and so they must be precise in their words and expressions to instill the hope that Nigerians need at this time, as it is in the interest of all for the government to do well regardless of who is in office.

“As a new government, it’s noteworthy to understand the influence and authority of words, both spoken and unspoken, when coming from those in positions of power; even without much action, it would have ripple effects on the economy and the well-being of the citizens.”

“I wish they could always think of how to position these words to give the hope that Nigerians need now, which will start affecting the economy positively for the people to see and feel.”

Reiterating that it’s everyone’s best interest that things goes well for the country regardless of who is in office.
