Prof. Segun Aina Assumes Office as New JAMB Registrar

Posted on July 31, 2026

Professor Segun Aina has officially assumed office as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second and final five-year tenure ended on July 31, 2026.

A renowned Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Professor Aina brings extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure and public sector institutional reform to the nation’s tertiary admissions body.

His appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to build on the reforms that have strengthened JAMB’s examination processes, transparency and operational efficiency in recent years.

Speaking on his appointment, Segun Aina described his new role as a call to national service and pledged to lead the examination body with integrity, fairness and accountability.

He also declared zero tolerance for examination malpractice, warning operators of compromised Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres and other individuals involved in fraudulent practices that JAMB would strengthen enforcement through the deployment of technology, thorough investigations and appropriate legal action.

“I assure Mr. President, and indeed everyone in Nigeria, that I shall discharge this responsibility with integrity, fairness, diligence and an unwavering commitment to the public good. To those who organise examination malpractice and those who compromise CBT centres, hear me clearly. Your business is with the wrong institution. JAMB will continue to deploy every lawful, technological, administrative and investigative measure available to detect, deter and prosecute examination malpractice,” he said.

Professor Aina also has a long-standing relationship with JAMB, having begun his career with the Board during his National Youth Service.

Over the years, he has consulted for several examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), contributing to examination integrity, digital transformation and systems optimisation across Nigeria’s education sector.

The new Registrar holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.

He has also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School and is a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
