Technical Director of Nigeria Judo Federation, NJF,  Mr. Dickson Egbonwon has admonished the country’s judokas in the Diaspora to be worthy ambassadors.
Mr. Egbonwon who was speaking at the grading ceremony of judokas at Rowe Park, Lagos recently, told the youngsters to wear their new ranks with discipline and humility.
He told the excited judokas “I congratulate you all for moving up the ladder in our noble sport. From what I witnessed today, you’ve done well to get elevated.”
“However, do not get carried away by the progress you have made so far because you are just starting the life-long journey that is judo. Our sport is a journey of a lifetime”
“So you must wear your new ranks with discipline and humility for these are the pillars on which judo is anchored if you must progress”.
The NJF chief also challenged one of the graded judokas, Wahab Disu who is based in the United Kingdom to be a worthy ambassador of Nigerian judo.
Speaking specifically to the UK based judoka, Mr. Egbonwon said “Nigeria has some of her judokas in the diaspora and you are one of them. My appeal to you is that you should project Nigerian judo in positive light because you are an ambassador for our sport like our compatriots who are in different parts of the world.”
Chief judo coach of Lagos State, Mrs. Janet Omorodion who graded the judokas spoke glowingly of them.
According to her “The judokas graded today worked hard to achieve their new grades and I am proud of them”.
She noted that Wahab Disu was of exemplary conduct adding that “Wahab will be a worthy ambassador for Nigerian judo”.
The grading ceremony was graced by top shots in the judo community including former national coach and chairman, Grading Committee of the Nigeria Judo Federation, NJF, Mr Edokpolor Ihaza and the Chairman of the Nigeria Police Judo Association, Mr. Tunji Disu(Assistant Commissioner of Police) whose son Wahab was one of the graduands.
