Ramon Wins PWC Chess4change Grand Slam In Lagos
Ramon Idowu from Lagos City Senior College,Sabo Yaba, emerged as the champion of the PWC Chess4Change 2021 Grand Slam Tournament.
The three day event was held at Molade Okoya Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Speaking at the Closing Ceremony, the Executive Chairman,Lagos State Sports Commission, Sola Aiyepeku charged the students to continue spreading the gospel of Chess.
“we need to harmonize together to work and to ensure that’st chess spread, not just spread but also deepening the truth in Lagos”.
He also stressed that the mission of spreading and deepening the sport is maintained.
“You need to go out and spread the gospel of chess,we are going to create more competitions for you, and by God’s grace we will also create competitions that will be at the next level” said Aiyepeku.
He stated that the next level is actual professionalism where, when the students leave school, they can actually find a way to make it a career.
In his own contribution, the Chairman, Lagos State Chess Association, Tokunbo Fagun said that children are the future and one needs to invest in them.
“Contrary to what people say that Chess is a Game for geniuses; no, it’s a game for anybody and from there students can develop themselves in critical thinking, problem solving and loss of memory will be eradicated” said Tokunbo.
Ramon Idowu gave kudos to the Lagos State Sports Commission, Ministry of Education and the organiser for creating a platform to display their talents.
“I am looking forward to participating at the National and International tournaments,” said Ramon.
