Students of power and keen observers of Imo politics are not usually taken aback by propaganda, blackmail and smear campaign of calumny during  electioneering season like this; as political gladiators and state actors adopt any war strategy possible to bring down their opponents, outsmart them, and win the elections. The losers should meet them in Court. No doubt, propaganda is one of such veritable tools in democracy to win your elections, if properly executed!
Investigations had it that those who  concocted, cooked, and dished out the dangerous propaganda that ousted Chief Ikedi Ohakim out of office as Imo governor, were heavily paid as they cashed into the religious sentiments and emotions of catholic faithful who went on black protest as ‘black mass’ was also served to remove him.
After reading a rather watery, empty and insidious latest sponsored political propaganda by one of the paid media hirelings of the APC senatorial candidate for Orlu zone,  Chief Osita Izunaso, with an untraceable pseudo account name of Tope Andrew, I could only say that: “Laughter in the midst of tragedy can never be really funny”.
Having lost the popularity contest and issue based social engagements with members of the Imo West Senatorial District, to his major rival and headache – Chief Charles Ugochukwu Ahize-Chukwu of Labour Party; a  jittery Osita Izunaso,  who is running under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that mismanaged the security issue in Orlu zone, which propelled the economic woes the people are suffering today, resorted to cheap propaganda through his e-rats and data boys just to distract the leading senatorial hopeful in the race, Charles Ahize.
Unfortunately, resorting to infantile, atavistic, puerile, mischievous and  cheap propaganda will not save APC and Chief Osita Izunaso from the looming political tsunami that will hit them like a boomerang on Saturday, February 25, 2023. Chief Osita Izunaso has refused to campaign but rather stay very comfortably at his Civic Centre, Owerri  mansion or in Protea Hotel, to marshal out plans on how to win the elections his usual way. He has refused to consult his Oru East people, who have openly come to reject him. He has refused to take his campaign down to the grassroots, where communities in Orlu zone wish to ask him pertinent questions about his 8 years of stewardship in the National Assembly as a member of the House of Representatives and Senator, respectively.
Having lost all the indices of winning election in the new social order of BVAS  except boasting of contesting under a ruling party, APC, campaign of calumny and dangerous propaganda has become their Plan B.
In their fruitless attempts to blackmail the leading senatorial hopeful in Orlu zone, Chief Charles Ahize of Labour Party, they forgot that even Peter Obi knows Chief Ahize as a man of strong character with impeccable integrity. Charles Ahize’s word is always his bond. Go and verify! Ironically, they forgot in a hurry that just last Thursday, February 16, 2023, Charles Ahize received the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as he addressed traders at the popular Alaba International Market, Naze, Imo State.
However, while we are not really bothered about the watery and empty propaganda without substance, my response to their divisive, incitive, inflammatory and rabble rousing piece became expedient given the allegation raised therein so as not to mislead the  innocent reading public especially, the diehard apostles and foot soldiers of the Obi-dient Family that may not control their emotions so easily before venting their anger.
In lieu of the above, it was quite shocking to see how low the Osita  Izunaso camp had stooped in their bid to stop Labour Party senatorial candidate, Chief Charles Ugochukwu Ahize-Chukwu.
Having realized that the Court judgement removing Hon Jones Onyereri from the race would tilt PDP votes towards Charles Ahize of Labour, they have resorted to the most childish and lowest form of fake news and dangerous propaganda in trying to distract and disillusion his teeming followers.
A fake news write up by a faceless Tope Andrew was released yesterday with the  title: “Why I dumped Peter Obi for Bola Tinubu – Labour Party Candidate for Orlu Senate, Charlie Akpuruka, Opens Up”,   making claims that Chief Ahize had dumped Labour Party presidential candidate – Peter Obi, in favour of APC’s  Presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. How childish and preposterous.
It appears that the APC candidate – Osita Izunaso, who has not been able to campaign in Orlu zone because of the understandable animosity of Orlu people towards anything APC, has already thrown in the towel and is just clutching straws and desperately doing all he can to stop the unstoppable Ahize.
However, It is worthy of note that the Courts just recently struck out the case Izunaso instituted against Chief Charles Ahize. It is also worthy of note that there was a similar false propaganda post claiming that Ahize was being sponsored by Governor Hope Uzodinma. There was also another earlier false allegation against Ahize that he collected N20m from Izunaso. An allegation which was investigated and found to be false. All this, in a desperate bid to stop Charles  Ahize, who has been destined by God to lead Orlu zone at a challenging time as this. The Izunaso camp should have come to the realization that there is no stopping a man whose time has come. They also need to come to the realisation that Orlu people will never vote for APC even if a knife is put to their throats.
Last minute propaganda of the kind released from the Izunaso’s camp yesterday, only confirmed to the people what they already know. Ahize will win the election no matter how many propaganda articles are released in the coming days before the elections on the Saturday, 25th February, 2023.
Charles Ahize is a revolutionary political idea whose time has come. Would you rather not join the winning team and Labour Party under Peter Obi to salvage Nigeria for the good of all and our children?
