Reverend Imprisoned For Allegedly Duping Man N11.7m Over False Marriage

A 55-year old Reverend with the Assembly of God Church in Warri, Delta State, Rev. Moses Emonena has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly obtaining the sum of N11,750,000 from Samuel Oladele Fatai with the pretext to marry out his daughter to him.
Emonena allegedly deceived Oladele, collected the money from him but married out his daughter to another man.
The accused Reverend was arrested by the operatives of the Federal Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, FCIID, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos following a complaint by Oladele and arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos on a two count charge of felony Wit. obtaining money under false pretence.
Police Counsel, Superintendent Henry Obiazi informed the Court that the accused committed the offence between November 2016 and March 2017 at Egbeda, a suburb of Lagos.
Obiazi told the Court that the complainant reported to the Police that he approached the accused to give out his daughter to him for marriage and that the accused gave him several conditions to fulfill before he could allow him to marry his daughter.
Obiazi said that the Complainant stated that he was shocked that after he fulfilled all the conditions given to him running into N11,750,000 by the accused, he gave out his daughter to another man for marriage.
He added that the offences the accused committed were punishable under sections 411 and 314(3) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Emonena, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges in the open Court and Chief Magistrate, Folashade Botoku granted him bail in the sum of N1million with two sureties in like sum who must be civil servants.
Botoku adjourned the case till 27 April for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at the Ikoyi Prison, Lagos till he fulfilled the bail conditions.
