It appears public places are no longer safe in Lagos State following a nasty experience for Muslim worshippers, who went to a praying ground and they were attacked by armed robbers.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the praying ground located at Ijegun area of Lagos State.

Apart from the fact that the daredevil armed robbers disrupted prayer activities, they were said to have robbed some of the worshippers with arms not minding it was a sacred place.

The worshippers reportedly abandoned the prayer session and ran helter-skelter in order to save their lives in the process.

The robbery incident was reported to the Commissioner of Police, who dispatched operatives from Special Team in the area and they successful arrested one of the suspects, an 18-year old Nureni Oluwatobiloba while others were said to be at large and are wanted by the Police.

The suspect was subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for conspiracy and armed robbery.

The Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
Hence, the Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. O.I. Adelaja, ordered his remand in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice.

The matter was adjourned pending the outcome of the DPP’s report, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court for trial over jurisdiction.

The defendant risks several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court for conspiracy and armed robbery as alleged by the Police.
