ARINZE CASMIR
Sunday, 13th of May, 2018 remained a remarkable date in the life and times of the businessman, entrepreneur & Philanthropist/human capital developer and political iroko of Orlu, Imo State extraction, Chief Sir Felix Idiga, as friends and business associates hoodwinked and ambushed him into what could be better described as a quasi – endorsement move for the highest political office in Imo State – the governorship seat. Chief Sir Felix Idiga who is yet to be relieved of the shock of the pleasant surprise, thanked his friends for thinking high of him and finding him worthy of such a noble position.
It is evident that the Imo State All Progressives Congress (APC) is experiencing an ugly trend of politicking and the party is wearing a recklessly factionalised toga at the moment. And the controversies surrounding the ward congress that held in the state two Saturdays ago remains a source of intrigue to journalists as the unfolding incidences never stopped getting interesting. Recall that Chief Sir Felix Idiga had earlier sued for peace in the affairs of the party in the state. At the last State Executive Committee meeting of the party held at Concord Hotels, Owerri, Sir Idiga, while granting few words to the press made it abundantly clear that it takes only a peaceful party to guarantee the success of her aspirants.
The Maitama, Abuja Governor’s guest house of a sitting governor (names withheld) was agog with top politicians (compromising two(2) sitting and one(1) ex- Governors), business titans, captains of industry, oil magnates – friends of Sir Idiga, numbering over forty(40) for the grand reception and hosting of Chief Sir Felix Idiga. Like earlier indicated, the human capital developer of Orlu, of Amaifeke origin was not expecting it.
According to them, Chief Felix Idiga has managed human beings, businesses and resources for over three decades and so the task of managing the affairs of Imo State should not be such a weighty one for him. They decried the college of men aspiring for the position of the highest office in Imo State, insisting that none of them held a candle closer to him.
In conclusion, they pledged their unalloyed support for Chief Felix Idiga to run for the governorship seat in Imo, promising to foot the bills to any extent. In his words of acknowledgement, Sir Felix thanked them and asked for some time to consult with his God, Family and advisers.
Chief Sir Idiga Felix is a high-profile politician in Imo State, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He had earlier declared to contest the office of the Federal Representatives of Orlu/Orsu and Oru-East Constituency to the cheers of over 5000 of his supporters at his country home, Orlu.
