Senior Secondary School students of Lagos State are set to immensely benefit from the newly approved initiative tagged EDUDRAMA by the State Government.

EDUDRAMA which is the brainchild of BACK2STAGE is an ingenious initiative that focuses on using the endearing and irresistible powers of Arts and Drama to simplify education, create a positive platform of bonding for students and broaden their world outlook.

Speaking to newsmen, Mr. Deji Ibitayo, the Creative Lead of BACK2STAGE highlighted the importance and benefits of the initiative to the students and lauded the State Government for its approval.

“We all know how rapidly the world is evolving and this applies to all facets of life including education, we must therefore strive to meet up with the evolving styles, approach and techniques of teaching and learning,” Ibitayo said.

He added; “It is an arguable fact that students of this generation tends to learn faster by watching and seeing rather than the conventional reading and it is on this basis that this initiative is most fitting and we want to use this medium to thank the State Governmnet for seeing the values and importance of such an initiative at this time and period for the utmost benefits of its students.”

While urging other State Governments to take a cue from Lagos State, Ibitayo said this edition of the project is dedicated to the theatrical production of the play ‘THE LION AND THE JEWEL’ as written by Prof. Wole Soyinka which is the approved literature text by WAEC and NECO for Senior Secondary School Students across Nigeria.

“It should be a no-brainer for all State Governments and in fact the Federal Government to embrace this laudable initiative, it is a win win situation for everybody, the students enjoy more successes in their examinations, there will be a bit of ease on teachers and the governments will be happy with the productivity of its students,” Ibitayo said.

On how the project would directly impact on the students, the BACK2STAGE lead said; “Take for example the text we are trying to simplify for them now, a lot of them would have read the book literarily but still do not get a grasp and understanding of the text and yet this is the same text that they will be writing their WAEC and NECO examinations on including JAMB.

“But you will agree with me that having the text simplify for them through drama would ease the difficulties of understanding and boost their performances in these examinations and that is the objective and aim of this project.”

The EDUDRAMA 2022 project for Lagos State will come up in May 2022 and will engage over two thousand senior secondary school students of the State.
