Sean Pee Cup Final: Celebrations In Bariga As Defending Champions Retain Title

Hundreds of football followers in Bariga, area of Lagos, on Sunday afternoon went into wild jubilations after their darling team, Bariga All Stars Football Club, defeated Oworoshoki All Stars FC 5-4 on a shootout to retain the title won last year.

The two-day tournament, which kicked off on Saturday, is being sponsored by Lagos State Commissioner of Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi.

Hundreds of Bariga football fans were in tears of joy when defending champions, Bariga All Stars emerged winners in the shootout.

It was a a full house at the CMS primary school newly renovated mini stadium on Sunday afternoon as both teams played to expectations of their fans. The pulsating tie ended 1-1 before they went into shootout.

Reacting to the victory, Bariga All Stars Coach, John Okpokiri thanked his players for their resilience and fighting spirit exhibited in the final saying that the victory was well deserved.

“We played a tough team, but I need to commend my boys for their commitment and seriousness. We almost lost the game but our equaliser in the second half brought us back to the game which gave us the victory in the penalties,” he said.

While Oworoshoki All Stars Coach, Lateef Badmus congratulated his opponents for the hard-fought victory and praised his boys for their brilliant performance.

During the medal presentation, Bariga All Stars received the sum of N350,000 while the second position went home with the sum of N250,000.

Ilupeju All Stars also went home with the sum of N150,000 for third position, as 68 All Stars got N100,000 for the fourth position.

Meanwhile a total of eight teams registered for the tournament. The teams are Bariga All Stars, Oworoshoki All Stars, Ilupeju All Stars, 68 All Stars, Fadeyi All Stars, Galaticos All Stars, Obanikoro All Stars and Ijede All Stars.
