WISDOM ONIEKPAR IKULI

It is unimaginable that Gov. Douye Diri who doubles as Governor-General of the Ijaw Nation could made a passionate appeal to them in such elaborate ceremony before the whole world, yet they they decided to turn him down.

Which message are they sending to other tribes and parts of the country and even the international community that is closely monitoring activities in Nigeria and the geographic Niger Delta region in particular?

Are they thinking that both of them are the wisest or most intelligent Ijaw people or the smartest?

Gov. Douye Diri represent the consciences of other 60 million Ijaw people all over the world. Any disrespect or insult to the Governor-General of Ijaw Nation is direct affront to the whole Ijaw Nation.

Barr. Oweilaemi Roland Pereotubo and Barr. Eric Omare ran factional Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide Executives but when Ijaw people spoke and appealed to their consciences, they jettisoned their ego and pride and they listened to Ijaw people.

Eric and Oweilaemi never ended at that they worked together to ensure that IYC had a successful transition that gave birth to the Deacon Peter Igbifa leadership.

Both of them who are illustrious sons of the Ijaw Nation showed that the collective interest of the Ijaw Nation is above their individual interest.

Gov. Douye Diri, critical stakeholders and senior citizens made a passionate appeal to Jonathan Lokpobiri and Alaye Theophilus to work together to ensure that IYC is not factionalized but the appeal fell on deaf ears. They are proving that they are bigger than the Ijaw Nation.

They are supposed to learn from the history of those before them who claimed to be bigger than the Ijaw Nation.

They can continue with their pride but what is sure is the fact that they do not own IYC and none of them can stay in office beyond the constitutional limit.

Every right person know that those who disrespect elders and constitutional authorities can never be respected by others especially the younger generation that they are teaching to disrespect elders and leaders.

As we wish both factions peaceful elections, they should have in mind that they have sowed very bad seeds in the history of the contemporary struggle for the emancipation cum liberation of our great people from economic and political servitude.
