Lagos State will play host to the maiden Sitting Volleyball Championship tagged Super Four from 16-19 June.

The tournament will feature the three top teams at the recently held National Para Sports Championship in Abuja and the host team from Lagos.

The Super Four Tournament is being organised by Mr. Kayode Ladele, a member of Lagos State Volleyball Association in collaboration with Nigeria Sitting Volleyball Federation and Lagos State Sports Commission.

The competition is one of the efforts to encourage sporting activities among Nigeria’s physically challenged population.

Ladele, the Chairman Legacy (Volleyball Club) had earlier donated sitting volleyball equipment to Lagos State sitting volleyball players on 25 May at the selection of players that would represent the state at the Super Four tournament.

The aim of the organiser is to further promote the sports just like the other sports and to also build a formidable team that would represent the State at both National and International Tournaments.

Sitting Volleyball is not a new game but just finding its feet in Nigeria, as the sport has been in existing for a long time.

Sitting Volleyball requires almost the same techniques as the normal volleyball except that the game is played by the physical challenged persons.

P.M. EXPRESS reports that teams are expected to arrive on Thursday 16 June while the competition holds 17-18 June at the indoor sports hall of the National Stadium, Surulere. Players and officials depart on 19 June.

The organiser says the invited teams would be camped at Teslim Balogun Stadium Hostel, Surulere
