Snooker Players Body, SPPA, Introduces Monthly Award, Set For World Cup In South Africa

The Snooker and Pool Players Alliance (SPPA), a national network for Snooker and Pool players in Nigeria has introduced a monthly recognition of the players’ performance.
The Cue Stick Award is a non-monetary reward for the players with the highest ranking at the end of the month in the various types of the sports; Snooker, Billiards and Pool.
 A certificate and a Cue Stick Award lapel pin which will be presented to the winners in a presentation ceremony will be held at the home bar or club of the winner.
“Following the successful introduction of the computerized ranking system, the monitoring of the performance of players remains a critical objective of the Alliance and the introduction of an award is an evidence of fulfillment of the objective as outlined in the vision and mission statement of the Snooker and Pool Players Alliance” the President of the SPPA  Joachim Idada said.
The award will also spur the players to be competitive according to Idada “We are hopeful that an award of this nature will improve the sporting value in Cue Sports, thereby motivating more players to show greater commitment to these greater which currently is regarded as a leisure activity”. 
Nigeria has a huge population of Pool players with 8 ball Pool been the most popular type as it is available in many bars and street corner. 
Meanwhile, the SPPA has received an invitation from the ICEA, International Chinese 8ball Pool Association to participate in the maiden edition of the Chinese 8ball Pool World Cup hold in Durban, South Africa from the 24th -29th March, 2020.
The Alliance is planning to organize a qualification tournament to select the best players to represent the Alliance and the country in Durban.
All SPPA accredited or affiliate clubs or bars are required to provide the Cue Sports Management and Ranking System which is a computerized point based platform that creates a leaders ladder both at the local and national level.
