Soccer Star, Samuel Eto’o Scores For Glo-sponsored African Voices

Football fans will have a rollicking time this weekend as African Voices, the soar-away magazine programme of the Cable News Network (CNN), features Samuel Eto’o Fils, Cameroon-born retired professional footballer regarded as one of the best strikers in the world.
Eto’o, who won the Confederation of African Football Award for Best Ten players of the last 50 years ,will be on the programme sponsored by telecommunications giant, Globacom, which was incidentally the main sponsor of the CAF Awards when the football star won.
African Voices Change Makers will be on DSTV on Friday at 9.30 a.m. and on Saturday at 12.30 p.m., 5.30 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. Other repeat broadcasts come up on Sunday at 5.00 a.m., 9.30 a.m. and 8.30 p.m., with more repeats on Monday and Tuesday at 5.30 a.m. and 6.30 p.m. respectively.
Born in Douala on March 10, 1981, Eto’o started his career in the round leather sport in 1992 with the Kadji Sports Academy where he was trained for four years before he was signed into the Real Madrid football Club as a 16-year-old in 1997.
He has since played for big soccer clubs including Mallorca which he joined in 2000 and scored 70 record goals before proceeding to other clubs including Barcelona; inter Milan, Chelsea, Everton, as well as Qatar Football Club from where he retired in 2019. From 1997 to 2000, he played for his country’s Under-23 National Team, winning Gold Medal at the Olympics.
Eto’o made history as the second player to score in two UEFA Champions League finals. At Barcelona, he came third for the FIFA World Player of the Year in 2005 and was twice named in the FIFA FIFPro World XI, in 2005 and 2006. He also won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2000 and 2002. Eto’o has participated in four World Cups and six Africa Cup of Nations.
