A mass based-civil rights and anti-corruption group, Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA Global Resource Initiative), has described the ongoing palliative programs embarked upon by the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Honourable Abdul-Hammed Salawu, popularly called Dullar, as a program that vindicated President Bola Hammed Tinubu, on good social welfare packages for Nigerians.

The group which has it’s headquarters in Lagos, said that series of frustrations been experienced by Nigerians are occasioned by the selfishness of some electorates closer to the office of the presidency.

HURMA’s Executive Director, Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak, made the above assertions during the 4th palliative program of Somolu Local Government, on Wednesday.

Comrade Buna who openly condemned the political associates of the Local Government Chairman for their selfishness. Also advised the electorates to be patriotic for the general good of all.

According to him; “our office has been receiving reports on how welfare packages meant for the poor people in Somolu Local Government Community have often been cornered by close political associates of the Chairman and this is not good for the general development and relief as desired by the Executive Chairman, Honourable Abdul-Hammed Salawu “Dullar”.

Comrade Buna further commended that the monthly palliative programs which some are meant for poor and vulnerable residents on N20, 000, each for 1000 people and another one for Traders and Artisans on a package of N50, 000, each for 1000 persons, which the council involved civil society group for monitoring.

He said: “the Human Rights leader commended the Executive Chairman of the Local Government for his boldness to involve civil society and anti-corruption body to monitor the package distribution process. But at the same time we condemned in strong terms how some politicians expected to select people for the welfare packages have been insisting on collecting return from beneficiaries without the knowledge of the Local Government Chairman.”

On the effect of the Somolu Council Boss’ welfare program, Comrade Buna said; “this sincerity of the Local Government Chairman has to a large extent, vindicated President Bola Hammed Tinubu on the good desire for Nigerians and how many top politicians have been selfishly diverting general welfare packages meant for the people into private pocket.

“We can however say that the problems on many occasions are not always the elected executives, but the electorates.

“We all receive reports on how rice meant for the general good of the citizens are being repackaged at inflated prices by those assigned the task of distribution. This happens everywhere, both at the State and Local Government level and these are same sets of people struggling eyeing same Executive offices.

“Let we the electorates charge ourselves on complete sincerity and selflessness, then we will have automatic devine backing to challenge the elected executives on transparency and accountability”.

Speaking in the same vein, Comrade Monsur Akinremi, HURMA’s coordinator for Somolu Local Government, enjoined people on contentment and selflessness as the only way for both the government and the governed.

The Civil Society body challenged other Local Government across the nation and other executive positions to toe the path of transparency and accountability as averagely demonstrated by the Chairman of Somolu Local Government. These projects include; roads; healthcare and general development visible to all.

Present at the Somolu Palliative Program were both Hon. Aremu, the S.S.A to Lagos State governor on transport and Hon. Opeyemi Alabi, the S.S.A to governor Baba-jide Sanwo-Olu who expressed profound appreciation to the Somolu Local Government Chairman on behalf of Lagos youth. Both state representatives described Hon. Abdul-Hammed Salawu Dullar’ as one of the best Local Government Chairman in Nigeria who should be emulated by others.
