Southwest Zonal Elimination: Team Lagos Pick 13 Slots For NSF 2022

Team Lagos maintained their grip of supremacy among teams in the southwest zone of the country as they took most of the slots available at the just concluded Southwest Zonal Elimination Championship for the National Sports Festival Delta 2022.
The Lagos team were too much for other states in the region taking 13 of the 14 slots in the team sports competed for at the championship hosted by Osun State at Bowen University and Lanleke Sports Academy in Iwo.
Interestingly, in all the seven sports taking part in, Team Lagos won at least a slot making the state readily positioned to have a good outing in the sports festival which holds in Delta State in November 2022.
The state picked the two slots for both male and female in Basketball so also Football, Baseball and Softball, as well as Hockey where the Lagos team came first. Team Lagos picked a slot in the male Beach Volleyball and a slot in the male Handball where they came first.

With the second position in female Handball and both male and female Volleyball, the state also secured places to play at the National Sports Festival.
Kolawole Moses Olusegun, the Director of Sports Development at the Lagos State Sports Commission, and the Team Leader to the Zonal Elimination congratulated the athletes for making the state proud. In a short message before the Lagos State contingent departed for Lagos early on Friday, Kolawole said: “We thank God for the success of the 21st edition of all team sports zonal elimination and the wonderful performance of our team sports athletes.
“These results show that Lagos State will continue to play a leading role in all ramifications in South West. This is the reflection of our performance in Delta State coming next month.
“I want to use this opportunity to thank our Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Executive Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr Sola Aiyepeku and our Director General, Mr Oluwatoyin Gafaar, for making it possible for us to attend this zonal elimination. Also, thank goes to all coordinating officials. I believe Lagos will put up a surprise package in Delta State. Congratulations to us once again.”
