Standup For Women Society Holds National Conference In Lagos, Seeks Recognition For Nigerian Women

From 36 states of the country and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, members of Standup for Women Society (SWS) will converge on Lagos to hold their maiden National Conference and Summit.


The Conference is scheduled to hold from 16-18 June, 2022 at the Pelican International Hotel I’m Lekki, Lagos.


The president of the organisation, Barrister Deborah Ijadele-Adetona told a media conference in Lagos on Monday that the Standup for Women Society is using the summit with the theme: Women in Leadership, to wake up the consciousness of Nigerian women and encourage them to be actively participate in leadership and decision-making process, adding that the notion that the women place at home is the kitchen should be jettisoned by the women themselves, while they should brace up to show the world that they are integral parts of the society and nation builders.


Ijadele-Adetona, flanked by some of her state executives in Lagos during the briefing, revealed that the Lagos First Lady, Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Pauline Tallen, human rights activist Aisha Yesufu, Prof (Mrs) Yemisi Adeparusi from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, human rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana and a host of others are lined up as speakers during the National Summit.


Highlights of the conference also include a rally within the Lekki community and award ceremony where distinguished people in the Nigerian society would be recognized based on their exemplary contributions to humanity and human development especially the cause of the women.


Among these awardees, according to Ijadele-Adetona, are Dr Daniel Kolawole Olukoya, the General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire Ministries, Chief Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation magazine, wife of Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Hajiya Aisha Abubakar Malami, Mrs R. U Osula Mku-Atu, Mrs Sa’adatu Onyashama Yaya, Mrs Zuwaira Gambo, Mrs Hasafat Umar Gimba, Dr.Abiola Olumide Oshodi, Barrister Kaka Shehu Lawan, Right.Hon. Muktar Betara Aliyu, Mrs Cecelia Bolaji Dada, Hajiya Hauwa Umar Jibrin, Ntufam (Dr) Oscar Ofusa and Mrs Angela Emuwa.

She commended the support received from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Bigi drinks and Habis among others.


The president disclosed how impactful is the Standup for Women Society on the lives of women across the country, saying “Our achievements in the past four years dwells on growth and development of women, which has been touching female gender across the nationwide at schools, correctional centers, homes and society at large. Both skilled and unskilled Women are benefitting from the benevolence of our various states chapters. 


“We have been actively seeking and involved in advocacy for women rights at the state and federal levels through presentation of papers and peaceful walks and protests separately and collectively with other women non-governmental organisations. 


“SWS impacts are also felt at different states Ministry of Women Affairs, INEC, states ministry of Education; Health; Youth and Sports. The society is a noble and dependable one to reckon with in its collaborations with parastatals, agencies, associations and communities to make life easy for our people.


“in the last two years, some of the state chapters have been receiving recognition awards for effective and efficient services discharged to their respective communities.

“The society (SWS) not only cares for the female genders, recently after sponsoring programmes that touches the Girl’s Child, it went ahead to compliment it with Boy’s Child. With the way SWS is going, it’s becoming visible as the upcoming race of women society that is passionate, active, effective and committed Organization to turn around the society for a better life.”
