I Steal Only In Mosques Because It’s Safe -Son of An Islamic Cleric

A 30-year old son of an Islamic cleric, Taofeek Wasiu has confessed that he chose to steal at mosques because it was safe and easy for him to escape.

Wasiu, who was arrested on Thursday at a mosque located at Governor’s Road in Ikotun where he went and pretended to be praying with other worshipers but stole a motorcycle parked by a worshiper, Yakubu Shaibu during prayer and drove it away.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered while the prayer was going on, Ogun State-born Wasiu went outside and unlocked the motorcycle and drove off.
He was pursued by other motorcycle operators who saw him and was eventually apprehended at Idimu and handed over to the police at Idimu division.
It was gathered that his arrest happened exactly one month after he was released from prison custody after spending 18 months for stealing two motorcycles in similar manner at Ejigbo, Lagos.
During interrogation, Wasiu said he lives at 10 Ifelodun Street in Ejigbo with his parents where his father’s mosque is located.
He also admitted he had been stealing motorcycles and usually sell it to a buyer he identified as Wasiu (a name sake) who lives in Agbara area at give away price.
He admitted that he left his parent’s house to the mosque in Ikotun not for the purpose of praying but to steal.
Wasiu told P.M.EXPRESS that he did not know what was happening to him despite the fact that he trained as barber but had been finding it difficult not to steal whenever he entered any mosque.
He explained that when he was in prison, he promised himself to stop stealing but he did not know what came over him to steal again.
The owner of the motorcycle, Shaibu narrated his experience.

He said he parked his motorcycle right in front of the mosque and entered to pray and did not know what was happening outside.
He said when he came out, he was informed that Wasiu came out of the mosque and picked his motorcycle and drove off.
He said he did not know what to do until he got information that he had been apprehended with his motorcycle and handed over to the Police at Idimu division.
Wasiu was brought to Ejigbo Magistrate’s court on Friday where he was arraigned to be prosecuted.
