Super Mock World Cup: Fans Attacked Adebayo Samba Boss After Referee Awarded Late Penalty

Chairman of Adebayo Samba Football Club of Ikotun, Alhaji Junaid Taofeek Ayodele received a serious attack following the late penalty awarded against his opponents, Super Accurate Football Club of Ikotun, Lagos in the semi final of Super Mock World Cup Football tournament which held at the Ikotun Community Primary School, Lagos.
Super Accurate FC (Brazil) were in 1-0 lead when centre referee gave Adebayo Samba FC (Portugal) a controversial late penalty which led to fracas among the supporters of the two teams.
The tournament was organised during the ongoing FIFA World Cup and participants adopted names of qualified countries to make the tournament tagged ‘Super Mock World Cup’
It was during the heated argument among the football fans was Adebayo Samba Boys FC Chairman, Taofeek was attacked by some fans who are allegedly suspected fans of Super Accurate FC.
Our correspondent who monitored the high tension soaked match observed that some fans gave Alhaji Taofeek a beating of his life to the extent that a fan among them targeted Taofeek’s left eye.
Taofeek who managed to speak to our correspondent said he had lost his sight as a result of the attack and blamed the organisers for not providing adequate security during the rivalry match.
“I was trying to settle the issue among the fans suddenly one of the football fans just attacked me and hit my left eye. As I am talking to you now, I could not see clearly and I need to see my doctor immediately I leave this field. Also, I’ll be making a visit to the Igando police station to report the guy that attacked my eyes. He’s a known cultist in the environment and I can clearly identify him & his gang members” he said.
Taofeek said the penalty awarded to his team at the last minute was justified noted that there was nothing wrong with the officiating from the beginning of the encounter.
He however commended the match officials for being fair in the encounter and condemned the match organisers for lack of security and permitting entry to cultists who puts players life at risks. He also applauded his team for their impressive performance displayed throughout the game.
Meanwhile the match resumed after organisers addressed the situation.
Super Accurate FC eventually won the match and secured their place in the final.
Speaking after the match, match coordinator, Bolaji Adeoye expressed his disappointment over the unruly behavior of the fans and supporters of both teams.
He disclosed that the disciplinary committee has swung into action to investigate the matters saying that any fan or team culpable would be sanctioned and punished accordingly.
