A 37-year old teacher, Odufuwa Abraham Oluwaseyi, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling his student, Philomon Praise God, under the false pretence of procuring NYSC certificate.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the teacher and others now at large collected the money with the promise to use it to procure the certificate for the victim as she was said to have not served after she graduated.
However,  the whole thing turned out to be a scam after the victim waited within the agreed period in vain and the teacher did not procure the certificate or refund her money.
The alleged fraud was reported to the Police at the Commissioner of Police Special Squad and the teacher was arrested and detained at the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable as he admitted to have collected the money and was unable to procure the certificate as he promised. He was consequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged conspiracy and obtaining under false pretence.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, granted him bail with sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
