Teacher, 49, Arraigned For Flogging Female Student Inside School Premises

A 49-year old school teacher, Raufu Kazeem Akinpelu, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly assaulting a 15-year old girl, Adewunmi Adedoyin Angel, inside the school premises. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 21st January, 2026, at Agbayewa Memorial College, Owodunni Street, Palmgrove, Ilupeju Lagos.
According to the Police, the teacher used the cane to cause bruises all over Adewunmi Adedoyin Angel’s body for allegedly committing an undisclosed offence inside the school.
The girl went home and reported what happened to her parents and the matter was reported to the Police at Ilupeju Division. The Police then arrested the teacher and detained him at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charges read:
COUNT I:”That you, RAUFU KAZEEM AKINPELU ‘M’ on the 21st day of January, 2026, at about 0800hrs at Agbayewa Memorial College, Owodunni Street, Palmgrove Ilupeju Lagos in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did assault one Adewunmi Adedoyin Angel ‘f’ age 15years old and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 171 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, RAUFU KAZEEM AKINPELU ‘M’ on the same date, time and place at the aforementioned Magisterial district, did use cane to cause bruises all over the boby of one Adewunmi Adedoyin Angel ‘f’ age 15years old student of Agbayewa Memorial College, Palmgrove Ilupeju Lagos and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 174 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Tanimola, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
