Team Lagos Arrive Ilorin, Venue Of 6th National Youth Games
Athletes and officials of Team Lagos arrived in Ilorin, capital of Kwara State, ahead of their participation in the 6th National Youth Games (NYG) which holds from 10-20 October 2021.
Team Lagos, which comprises 260 athletes 59 coaches and other officials, including medical personnel, association secretaries, education districts sports among others left Lagos Sunday morning after they had received a pep talk from the Director-General, Lagos State Sports Commission Oluwatoyin Gafaar in Bariga, venue of their closed camp.
The early arrival of Team Lagos is one of the Sports Commission’s plans for athletes to acclimatise and settle in before the competitions begin.
Before departing for Ilorin, the Director-General appealed to the coaches to put in more effort to ensure that Lagos win more gold medals. He added that coaches should be scientific in dealing with athletes.
“They are our children,”. he said.
He urged the coaches to motivate and encourage the athletes to perform well by winning more gold medals for the state.
“Let us put in our best to have a good outing in Ilorin”.
He, therefore, wishes the contingent a successful outing in Ilorin.
Team Lagos placed the second position at the 5th National Youth Games behind Delta State in 2019.
Before the team’s departure, showing leadership by example, the Director-General led officials, coaches and athletes for the mandatory COVID-19 swab tests just before the closed camping ended in Bariga.
