Teams To Win N950k At 3rd JOF U-13 Football Championship

Winning teams in the ongoing 3rd JOF U-13 Soccer Tournament are to take home whopping sum of N950,000 at the end of the competition, the sponsor, JOF Nigeria Limited has said.

Speaking at a media conference held at the corporate office of the company in Lagos on Thursday, Director, Strategic Support Services, Mr. Adeyinka Adetunji said that the grassroots age grade tournament carries the cash prizes as tokens in addition to trophies and other items.

According to Adetunji, the winners will go home with the sun of N350,000 with the first, second and third runners up pocketing N250,000, N200,000 and N150,000 respectively.

“We have also made provision to reward some individual players who have distinguished themselves during the tournament, as we want to encourage all the participants to allow the spirit of fair play guides them in the remaining matches,” he said.

The competition which kicked off 5 March, 2022, enters its quarter final stage on Friday, 22 April, as matches are scheduled to be played at St. Mary Primary School, Lekki and White sand playground, Orile.

The final and third place matches hold on Sunday, 1 May at the Campos Stadium on Lagos Island

Adetunji told his guests at the media conference that JOF Nigeria Limited’s CEO and founder, Mr. Olusegun Olugboyegun, who is very passionate about youth development, wished all the participants in the tournament a successful event.

“The Chief Executive Officer Congratulates all the footballers, their coaches, managers, parents and supporters for being part of this tournament. At the ages of these young footballers, parents should be conscious of the fact that outdoor sporting activities should always be considered as an integral part of their leadership development, apart from the big opportunity to becoming international soccer professionals one day,” Adetunji said.

He emphasised that the focus of JOF Nigeria Limited is on male football, while the company will leave nothing to chance to ensure that “we drive it very well to produce results and add value to the development of Nigerian youths.”

Adetunji appreciated the support received from corporate organisations which have identified with the tourney with their products which include Milo, Maltina, Mabisco Biscuits, Indomie Noddles, JOF Salt, Bold drink and Custodian Insurance among others.

The organiser of the competition, Lagos State Football Association, said that the tournament has given amateur league coaches the opportunity to scout for talents who can uplift the standard of football in the domestic league in the future.

The association salutes the management of JOF Nigeria Limited, the sports committee for the annual tournament as the joint efforts have seen to the successful organisation of the event since it debuted three years ago.

Meanwhile, the tournament, which kicked off with 32 teams enters its quarter finals with eight matches taking place at two centres.

At St. Mary Primary School, Lekki, Loko Babes, Yaba and Ultimate Villa, Ikorodu will fight for a semi final ticket in the first match of the day, while Bullets Babes of Badagry will play Paul Boys of Aboru in the second game.

The semi final games will be played on Sunday 24 April at White sand playground, Orile and St. Mary Primary School, Lekki.
