It was sorrow and tears after the hope of retrieving impounded motorcycles by their owners was dashed following the public crushing of the bikes by the Lagos State Task Force.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that some of the owners were making efforts to retrieve the bikes before the information came that the bikes will be crushed on Saturday.

It was clear to the owners of the impounded bikes when the Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, came with his team to Alausa in Ikeja, to supervise the crushing and within few minutes, 482 motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, impounded at different spots across the State, became rumbles in the glaring eyes of their owners.

Speaking, the Police boss, Odumosu, disclosed that the crushing exercise had been going on since the enforcement started.

He stated that the exercise was carried out publicly to convince members of the public, especially the doubting Thomases that the impounded motorcycles were actually being crushed contrary to insinuations by mischief makers that the motorbikes were being sold and brought back to the roads.

He therefore, warned erring motorcycle operators plying restricted areas and those violating other traffic laws or using motorcycles for criminal activities in the state to have a change of mind or face the legal consequences.

CP Odumosu assured that the crushing exercise would be a continuous one to discourage people from trampling upon the law, and reiterated the determination of the Police Command to enforce the law.

The owners, who witnessed the crushing, went home in tears and dejected as they realized they cannot retrieve the bikes any longer.
