Police operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Command have arrested an 18-year old, Mubarak Abdullahi, who allegedly vandalized LED road stud light on the newly Rehabilitated Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened barely few weeks after another suspect, Friday Nwafor, was arrested for a similar crime on the same Third Mainland bridge, which was rehabilitated with billions of Naira by the Federal Government.
The suspect, Abdullahi, who lives in Makoko area of Lagos State, as at the time he was arrested had already removed 10 of the LED road stud lights screwed to the road to enhance visibility for road users.
However, he was unlucky, the RRS on patrol, who were deployed to the bridge on routine duty, saw him and moved immediately to apprehend him before he would escape.
The Police also recovered the items he had already stolen as exhibits.
The directives of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police for a 24-hour bike patrol on the Third Mainland Bridge to prevent such theft after the bridge was renovated is paying off.
The Commander of RRS, Olayinka Egbeyemi, who carried out the directive, had said then that it was a measure to protect the bridge and prevent incidence of harassment of road users by miscreants and theft of the lights.
“The Commander, CSP Egbeyemi, has directed the squad’s bike riders to commence a 24 hour patrol of the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos, as a way of protecting the infrastructure on the bridge as well as prevent incidences of harassment of road users by miscreants.
“This is in line with the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade to the squad for protection of lives, property and public infrastructure on the newly renovated bridge.”
CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi appealed to motorists and road users to co-operate with the riders so that they can serve them better.
The suspect will be charged to Court for the alleged offence after the conclusion of investigations by the Police.
