Tenant, 47, Docked For Battering Landlady During Public Brawl

A 47-year old tenant, Temitope Elegbede, has been arrested and charged before a Badagry Chief Magistrate Court in Lagos, for allegedly attempting to strangle his landlady, Oluwabunmi Otokiti.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 7th April, 2026, at about 9.20.a.m, at Panusa Ajobuwe Street, Ilogbo, Badagry area of Lagos, where they reside.
He was charged for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace and assault under the Criminal Law of the State..
The cause of the quarrelling was not disclosed by the Police but the  prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence by grabbing her neck inside her house before she was rescued by the neighbours.
The suspect was later nabbed and handed over to the Police for prosecution.
According to the prosecution, the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 168 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with sureties in like sum. He held that one of the sureties must be a community leader.
The court adjourned the matter till 14th May, 2026, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
