Tenant Bites Landlord’s Lip Over Rent

A landlord, Mathew Adekunle, got what he did not bargain for when he reportedly threatened and demanded payment for house rent from his tenant, Ernest Eke, in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the tenant, Eke, got angry, grabbed the landlord, rained blows on his face and bit his lower lip before rescue came the way of the landlord.
The incident happened at Igando area of Lagos, where the tenant rented an apartment.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the tenant, Eke and his landlord had been having issues before he was enable to meet up with rent payments since the Covid-19 lockdown. Hence, the landlord was said to have threatened to eject him, which got Eke angry and he assaulted him.
The assault was reported to the Police at Igando Division and the suspect, Eke was arrested. He subsequently charged before the Magistrates Court sitting in Ejigbo, Lagos.
The Police alleged that Eke gave his landlord, Adekunle, blows on the face, drew his head before biting his lower lip and injured him seriously.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove that the defendant actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. E.O. Ogunkanmi, granted Eke bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
However, Eke was unable to meet the bail conditions and was remanded in Correctional Centre pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
