It appears that dead bodies buried at cemeteries are no longer allowed to rest in peace following the arrest of five suspects, who allegedly specialized in exhuming human parts from graves for ritual purposes at the weekend in Ogun State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Police operatives from the Ogun State Command arrested the five members of the suspected gang while exhuming corpses from graves and removing body parts for ritual purposes.
The suspects included, Oshole Fayemi, 60; Oseni Adesanya, 39; Ismaila Seidu, 30; Oseni Oluwasegun, 69; and Lawal Olaiya, 50; were arrested on Saturday, 11th March, 2023, in Odogbolu area of Ogun State.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Sunday and he confirmed that they were in Police custody undergoing interrogation.
He stated that the suspects were nabbed following a tip-off that led the Divisional Police Officer of Odogbolu Division, Godwin Idehai and his men to their hideout shortly before they embark on another human parts harvest in Ososa town.
The Police image maker stated that the suspects had already confessed they were in the business of exhuming corpses from graves for their clients.
“They said that they usually sell the exhumed body parts to their clients who used them for money-making rituals,” Opeyemi said.
He further stated that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Frank Mba, has directed the transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
He said the suspects will be charged before the Court for the alleged offence but that will be after the conclusion of investigations by the Police.
