The Looming Darkness

Posted on December 12, 2020

Nigeria is now a complete jungle with jumbled irrational thoughts, where the helpless and innocent antelopes do not get justice from the excesses of monstrous lions.

The pampering of insurgents by our leadership settings has broadened more routes for insurgency to grow into a wider forest that would swallow up rational behaviours and encourage criminality in all spheres of human engagements. Wherever hooligans and political thieves are championing the wealth sector of a society, hooliganism and thievery become role models to many.

When you have a system that allows anyone to steal and still be respected, defended and celebrated by those he stole from, you should expect such society to keep tumbling from bad to worse until it goes extinct. There is no way you will expect positive advancements in a cruel and clueless leadership setting, where leaders’ actions cannot be questioned by those they serve and anyone who corrects or challenges them becomes state enemy. What a headless society! Emitting the exact fear of the assumed headless horse in a sleepy hollow.

A society that respects money and disrespects honesty; a society that will kill the innocent in favour of the wicked as far as favour or money says so; a society where most parents encourage their children to go into crime as far as they benefit from the proceeds of the crime; a society where the corrupt rules over the just; a society where corruption is adopted as a way of life. A confused society! A society of majority ‘odds’ where the infinitesimal ‘evens’ are openly and ignorantly referred to as the ‘odds’.

Note: Anywhere corruption festers, Judas are the celebrities in their fiestas. And it will be very much unfair and unwise for you not to also note that, whenever the looted sees the looter as his Martin Luther, looting continues.
As far as we continue to celebrate the corrupt, we should expect stiffer acrobatic display of evil. The level of insecurity that is making the round presently will have a better shape than what we shall be facing in the nearby future if nothing concrete is done to raise the hope of the public. And the only way to raise the hope of the public is to kill corrupt practices in our public offices by reducing cost of governance, making political offices less attractive and enacting an irreversible decree that would prescribe death penalty for corrupt public office holders. This will scare off criminals from the corridors of power and attract those with brighter ideas and good intentions to go into politics.
Good and all inclusive governance will foster cooperation and promote love among religious and ethnic divides. This will bring back the lost trust and discourage antisocial behaviours as fishing opportunity will be made available to all. It will promote patriotism as citizens from wealthy nations are naturally propelled to be happy, defend and be proud of their nations. The level of poverty and the corrupt practices in our society encourage antisocial behaviours; for he who hopes for nothing fears nothing and cares less for others, embracing the syndrome of ‘death is better than poverty’. There is still room for a change before it gets too late, for we are descending into a bloody war valley.
