The Love Of A Mother
PRINCE MACDONALD ENWERE

The love of a mother is like a guiding light that navigates the storms of life. It is as strong as a covalent bond that welds the particles of life.
It teaches the significance of diligence, persistence, and nurturing the development of a strong sense of identity and purpose. Mothers are God’s distinctive gift to mankind.
The truth is that not all women are mothers. A woman can only be described as a mother if she shows immense love, care, affection, and nurturing to her children, husband, and people around her. That is why a man can also ‘mothers’ a child especially when he provides love, caring, nurturing, and genuine affection. The transformation from woman to mother is a psychological profound experience that overlaps, which differs from the physical experience of becoming a mother. Becoming a mother is an inner journey with deep psychological experience to adapt with the responsibilities of life with a child. To be a mother is a divine gift and privilege from God . It confers enormous responsibilities and remains a serious vocation to partake in God’s creation and ensuring life continuity.
A mother is not only a woman who gives birth to a child, rather someone who provides intense care, protection and nurturing . Someone who provides emotional warmth, genuine affection, coddling, and caressing, as well as encouragement, admiration, and reassurance especially to the children and husband, such person is called a MOTHER.
In Igbo family cosmology, mothers are women who respect, care, protect and love their husbands. They are called; Obidiya, Oyiridiya, Ugobediya,
Ahudiya, Omasiridiya,
Nnediya, Enyidiya.
Our society today cannot survive without passing through the rudiments of nurturing which only mothers can provide through sustaining and propagating the virtues of love, tolerance, care and peaceful coexistence. That is why, mothers are described as fundamental agents of stability and development in our homes and society at large. Their diligent efforts in keeping the home front together and building the nation through their collective and fervent prayers will not be in vain.
My prayers for our Christian Mothers today is that, may their collective resilience and perseverance in making the family the anchor of the stable society continue to endure. Happy Mothering Sunday to our “Mothers”.
