The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi disclosed that the full rehabilitation of Lagos’ Third Mainland Bridge cost a total of ₦43 billion.

The project covered 14km × 14m across both carriageways, including concrete rebuilding and repainting, expansion joint replacements, and solar lighting installation.

Umahi clarified that the newly inaugurated CCTV surveillance centre Nigeria’s first of its kind, equipped with 240 solar panels, air-conditioning, inverters, a 300KVA transformer, standby generator, monitoring screens, a surveillance boat, and two Hilux vans cost no more than ₦2.5 billion, quoting: “The cost of the CCTV centre is not more than N2.5 billion.”

The minister explained that upon assuming office in 2023, the administration found the bridge in poor condition, noting: “When we came on board in 2023, we met a very terrible Third Mainland Bridge, both on the pavement surface, infrastructure above the water and even infrastructure below the water. This prompted President Tinubu’s directive: The President, therefore, directed the total re-evaluation and rehabilitation of the surfaces of the Third Mainland Bridge and the replacement of the expansion joints.”
