Tinubu Tasks Ministry On Revival of Nigeria Air Project

Posted on January 7, 2025

President Bola Tinubu has mandated the newly appointed Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Dr Ibrahim Kana, to revive the Nigeria Air Project.

Kana revealed this directive during a meeting with aviation agency heads and ministry staff in Abuja, emphasising the need to align the country’s airports with global standards.

Kana disclosed this during a meeting with heads of agencies of the aviation ministry and members of staff in Abuja.

He said he has been given the mandate to accomplish the two objectives of the current administration.

“While receiving my deployment letter, I received very clear instructions, with two tasks to achieve within this period, by His Excellency, Mr. President, as well as the Head of Service of the Federation.

“One is to ensure that Nigeria Air comes to be. Two, sanitize our airports across the country. All of us will agree that there is no better time to have an Nigeria Air than now,” he said.

Early into the administration, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, had declared the indefinite suspension of the Nigeria Air project, saying it was nothing short of Ethiopian Airlines aiming to fly the Nigerian national flag.

However, Kana pledged to prioritise the President’s renewed hope agenda, working with Keyamo to ensure seamless passenger experiences and achieve the national carrier’s revival.

He assured that the Nigeria Air project would be achieved within a very short period, adding that they would also intensify efforts, to sanitize the airports to operate in line with global best practices.

“We want our passengers in the airports to feel at home to operate and move seamlessly, transiting from one point of the airport to another. Our dream is to give birth to a national carrier within the administration of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he added.
