It was pomp and pageantry on Saturday 13th June, 2026, at St Peter and Paul Catholic Church Hall, Ejigbo Lagos, as dignitaries, traditional rulers, and community leaders converged for the 70th birthday celebration of prominent Igbo leader, Eze Dr Alex Sunday Nwoye. He is popularly known as Onyendu Ndigbo and Bobaselu of Ejigbo Kingdom.

The celebration was well attended by guests from across Nigeria. Traditional rulers, captains of industry, and leaders of various ethnic groups filled the church hall to honour the elder statesman on his platinum milestone.

At the centre of the celebration was Eze Dr Alex Nwoye and his wife, Lolo Jacinta Nwoye. The couple, dressed in matching royal blue and gold, received guests with warm smiles as traditional music played in praise of God for 70 years of life and service.

Lolo Jacinta Nwoye, known for her calm demeanour and community work, played a key role throughout the event. She sat beside her husband during the opening prayers and later joined him to welcome guests at the reception. Many described her as his pillar of strength.

A special moment came when the celebrant’s son, Uche Nwoye, mounted the podium to deliver a tribute. With emotion in his voice, he praised his father’s life of discipline, wisdom, and service to the Igbo community.

Uche Nwoye thanked God for preserving his father’s life to 70 years. He told the gathering that Eze Nwoye raised his children with love, truth, and strong Igbo values. “My father taught us that age is a blessing when used to serve others,” he said.

The son’s tribute moved many guests to tears. He prayed that God would continue to grant his father good health, strength, and long life. He also thanked his mother, Lolo Jacinta, for her support and sacrifices in raising the family.

Eze Nwoye is widely respected among Igbo communities in Lagos and beyond. As a senior member of the Council of Ndieze Lagos State, he has spent decades promoting unity, settling disputes, and supporting Igbo cultural values among youths in the diaspora.

Among the top guests was the Traditional Ruler of Uga Town, Obi of Uga, who joined other first-class traditional rulers to pay homage. Their presence gave the event a royal colour and deep cultural significance.

Also in attendance was Dr Jonathan Nnaji, Board of Trustees Chairman of the Igbo Speaking Community Lagos State. He was joined by Chief Sunday Udeh, President of the group, and Chief Cyriacus Izuekwe, BOT Director of Media and Publicity.

The glamour of the occasion was raised further with the arrival of Eze Tochukwu Anosike, Eze Ndigbo Gburugburu Southwest, and Eze Ephraim Nnaemeka Okosisi, Chairman of the Council of Ndieze Lagos State. Other senior members of the Council added weight to the celebration.

Leaders of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State were also present. Chief Leonard Okafor, popularly known as Oba Ojoto and current President General, came with his entourage. Former President General, Chief Solomon Aguene, was also in attendance with his team.

In his brief address to guests, Eze Nwoye expressed surprise at the massive turnout. He thanked God for 70 years of life and appreciated leaders from various ethnic groups who honoured his invitation. He described the gathering as proof that unity is possible in Nigeria.

Lolo Jacinta Nwoye also spoke briefly, thanking God and the guests for celebrating with them. She prayed for long life, peace, and good health for everyone present. Guests applauded her words, which focused on gratitude and service to community.

Community members described the celebration as more than a birthday. They said it marked 70 years of leadership, family values, and commitment to Igbo unity. As Eze Nwoye and Lolo Jacinta enter this new chapter, many prayed that they would continue to mentor youths and promote peace in Lagos and Nigeria for many more years.
