Driver, 42, Arraigned For Breaking Container & Carting Away N18m Goods At Trade Fair

A 42-year old truck driver at Trade Fair Complex, Jimoh Mohammed, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly breaking a container and carting away goods worth over N18m. 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 2nd April, 2025, at Abule Osun area of Trade Fair Complex, where the container was kept belonging to De-Amalink Trafo Enterprises, being represented by Jeremiah Ezeamaku.

According to the Police, the suspect and others now at large conspired in the early hours of the morning and stole the items with the intention that the complainant will not know about it.

However, the matter got exposed and the the complainant reported to the Police at  Ilembe Hausa Division. The suspect was then arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

The Police found him culpable after interrogation and charged him before the Ojo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

The charges read:

“That you, Jimoh Mohammed ‘m’ and others at large on the 23rd day of April, 2025 at 2000 130hrs at Abule Osun Area, Trade Fair, Lagos State, in the Ojo Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: Stealing, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

COUNT II:” That you, Jimoh Mohammed ‘m’ and others at large on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, being the truck driver contracted to transport two 20 feet container body, containing electrical materials from Apapa to Showermimo area of Ajangbadi, Ojo, Lagos, did break into one of the containers kept under your care to steal different types of electrical materials all valued Eighteen Million Two Hundred and Seventy two Thousand Naira only (N18,272,000:00) only, property of De-Amalink Trafo Enterprises, being represented by Jeremiah Ezeamaku ‘m’, and thereby committed and offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.”

However, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Esther Adesulu, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.M. Ogun, granted him bail  in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
