Two Suspected Land Speculators Remanded Over Alleged N7m Ikorodu Land Sales

Two suspected land speculators at Oloye Village in Erunwen, Ikorodu, Lagos, Taofeek Adebesin, 58, and Wasiu Adesina, 47, has been arrested by the operatives of the Nigerian Police Zone 2 Command Lagos and dragged before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for allegedly obtaining the sum of N7 million from a complainant, Ogochukwu Ndidi Asota by false pretense. 

Police said that the defendants allegedly collected the money from the complainant with the pretext of selling three acres of land to him at the Oloye Village, but that the defendants allegedly failed to provide the land for the complainant and instead converted the money to their use.

Following the development, the complainant petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Adegoke Fayoade in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos who swiftly directed his men to fish out the fleeing suspects.

The Police team arrested the defendants at a hideout in Lagos through intelligence gathering and tracking.

After investigation by Stanley Igbinovia and his team, the defendants were charged before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court at the Tinubu Court, Lagos Island on a three count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence and stealing.

Police Prosecuting Counsel, DSP Francis Igbinosa told the Court in the charge marked R/42/2025  that the defendants committed the offence in 2p22 at Oloye Village in Ikorodu. Lagos.

Igbinosa informed the court that the defendants collected the money from the complainant and sold the three plots of land belonging to a different family to the complainant unknown to the buyer that the land did not belong to the sellers.

Their secret became open when the complainant mobilised workers to site to start development on the land only for the alleged family owner of the land stormed the site to chase the workers away warning them not to step their feet on the land again saying they didn’t sell the land to anyone.

He said the offences the defendants committed were punishable under sections 411, 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, however pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate, Mrs D.S Amos granted them N1,000,000 bail each with two surties each in like sum.
