U-15 Bode George Kids Cup Kicks Off Monday In Lagos

The inaugural edition of the U-15 Bode George Kids Cup would begin on Monday, 15 December 2025, at the Ojoniyu Sports Centre, Ebute-Metta, Mainland, Lagos.

A total of 24 teams are expected to take part in the competition on Monday, which is being put together by the Lagos State Grassroots Soccer Association and sponsored by Chief Olabode George, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Addressing the journalists at the press conference held on Thursday afternoon, the cup donor said sponsoring football at the grassroots is borne out of the passion he has for the round leather game during his youth.

He recounted how he played football on the streets of Lagos Island and its environs during his youthful age saying that football then brought joy, unity and love among the youths in the communities.

Comparing the grassroots football during his youthful days and present day, Chief Bode George said footballers were more disciplined and respectful then saying that some footballers nowadays lacked some values which affecting their footballing careers.

He however expressed his displeasure the way government of nowadays are showing lackadaisical attitude towards sports development and called on government at all levels to empower the youths through sports and keep them away from social vices.

Speaking earlier, Taofeek Ajibola thanked the cup donor for his support to the grassroots football in the state and promised that the organisers would organise hitch free tournament.
