Umpires Course Ushers In 2018 Lagos Int’l Badminton Classics

The 2018 edition of the Lagos International Badminton Classics began Monday with a two-day umpires course at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
The umpires course, which is holding inside the administrative conference room of the stadium, is being organized as parts of the 4th Lagos International Badminton Classics by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) to user in day Classics. It will end on Tuesday.
The umpire training course delivered by the BWF Instructor, Semugabi is to put the officials in shape and through the codes and ethics of badminton ahead of the championship proper, which holds from Wednesday to Friday. Players and officials have been arriving for the tournament since Sunday.
According to Harriete, the course will prepare the umpires to officiate according to the rules for a free and fair tournament.
A member of the Local Organizing Committee, Abiodun Akinyemi, urged the umpires to be vibrant and give in their best in order to give Nigeria and Africa as a whole a good tournament.
President of Nigeria Badminton Federation, Barrister Francis Orbih, who is also serving as the Chairman of Local Organising Committee said that no fewer than 22 countries had registered to participate in this year’s edition, some of which are Jordan, Egypt, Germany, Ghana, Israel, Ivory Coast , Benin Republic, Czech Republic, India, Malaysia and Nigeria, the host country, while 193 players across the world will be competing, comprise 60 from Nigeria and 133 foreign players.
The price money had been raised from 20,000 dollars to 25,000 dollars in order to increase more participations and competitiveness during the international Classics.
