The grand finale of the 36th Igbogbo Day celebration was a spectacular event held on a radiant Saturday that will forever remain vivid in the memories of all who attended. This significant day brought together a distinguished gathering of traditional rulers, chiefs, political figures, diplomats, scholars, sons and daughters from Igbogbo and beyond with members of various social clubs, including the notable presence of United Brothers & Diaspora, who were actively involved in this remarkable occasion.
The event, which took place on the premises of Zumuratu Grammar School, was a truly memorable occasion that provided a remarkable platform for celebrating and enhancing community bonds. It was a vibrant showcase of the rich cultural heritage and unity of the Igbogbo people, featuring traditional music, dance, and art that highlighted their proud history and shared identity. This gathering not only reinforced the community’s sense of togetherness but also offered a space for both young and old to engage with their cultural roots, ensuring the preservation of their traditions for future generations.
Commenting on this year’s event, Chairman United Brothers, Mr. Austin Jack said, “The Igbogbo Day and its Grand Finale are significant events for us, as we are deeply rooted in this vibrant kingdom. We conduct our businesses here, nurture our families, and take immense pride in joining the sons and daughters of this community in this grand celebration. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to God for the gift of life and for consistently being with us through our endeavors. Looking ahead, we have a multitude of programmes planned for next year, each aimed at enhancing the social corporate responsibility efforts focused on the educational advancement of our host community, Igbogbo”.
Jack described the event as a thrilling one and it was great to be united as one big family.
“United Brothers, our cherished social club, brings us together regularly to share valuable advice and strategies for progressing in life. We are fortunate to have some of our members residing in the diaspora, who, to the glory of God, have extended their support. Their contributions are greatly appreciated to the grand finale celebration of Igbogbo Day.”
He prayed for the continued peace within Igbogbo, “We are grateful that our communal life has been marked by harmony and without the strains of any crisis. Additionally, we pray for the enduring health of our esteemed king and wish for a prosperous reign that continues to bring progress and unity to our beloved kingdom”.
Speaking in the same vein, the Vice Chairman, Oladipupo Abiodun noted, “The United Brothers was formed nine years ago, and since then, we have been participating in the Igbogbo Day anniversary. Our objective remains to contribute to the development of Igbogbo, Lagos State, and Nigeria. We give glory to Almighty God because the journey has been very tough from the outset.”
“It’s a momentous occasion for every member of the United Brothers as we gather in joyful celebration that promises happiness for all. This gathering is not just a mere event but a significant opportunity for us to make meaningful contributions to our society. The Kingdom has continued to embrace both indigenous and non-indigenous members of our community, reflecting our dedication to inclusivity and harmony. Throughout the years, we have worked together as friends and collaborated as a unified team, essentially forming one large, supportive family” Oladipupo emphasised.
In his words, “It is remarkable how our community embraces diversity, exemplified by the fact that both my chairman and I, as the vice chairman, are non-indigenes to this kingdom. Yet, we have been wholeheartedly accepted by the local people with warmth and peace, enabling us to live and work in harmony”.
Oladipupo said, “We are truly grateful and delighted to contribute to the development and celebrations that take place here in Igbogbo. As we continue our journey, we offer prayers for the long life and prosperity of our esteemed king, so that he may witness many more anniversaries. We are hopeful that, under his wise leadership, the Igbogbo Kingdom will continue its journey towards the promised land, achieving greatness and fulfilling its destiny.”
